First Presbyterian Church of Wayne, Nebraska
Our chief end is to glorify and enjoy God forever.

Where We're Going

In 2006, our church began engaging in an ongoing process of transformation.  In discerning God's desired future for our congregation, we have developed some guideposts for focusing our mission and vision, as well as restructuring the ministry of our session.  Here is our ongoing work:

Our Mission Statement: Our chief end is to glorify and enjoy God forever.

Our Vision Statement: Empowered by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, we strive to live out Christ's Great Commandment (to love God and our neighbors) and Christ's Great Commission (to make disciples, baptize, and teach).

Our Goals: As the body of Christ, we strive to:

  • Worship and love the Lord our God with our whole heart, sould, mind, and strength; (worship)
  • Exalt Jesus Christ as the only Lord and Savior for humankind; (worship, evangelism)
  • Strengthen relationships among the members of the covenant family, sharing in one another's joys and sorrows; (fellowship)
  • Build and equip disciples of Jesus Christ who will serve him gladly; (discipleship)
  • Reach out in mission to our community, caring for the poor and needy; (mission)
  • Become effective witnesses for Jesus Christ in our community, sharing the good news of the gospel to those who need it most; (evangelism)
  • Practice good stewardship of that which God has entrusted to our care; (stewardship)
  • Fulfill Jesus' commandment to love one another by caring for each other; (ministry)

Our Guiding Values: We, the First Presbyterian Church of Wayne, Nebraska, are committed to:

  • The triune God--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;
  • Salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ;
  • The ultimate authority of the Bible as our rule for faith and practice;
  • The Presbyterian system of governance and our Reformed theological heritage;
  • Our Creeds and Confessions as faithful expressions of what Scripture teaches;
  • Christian lives marked by faithfulness, charity, compassion, and holiness;
  • Ecumenical cooperation in our community and world;
  • Authentic Christian community;

Since we are a Presbyterian congregation, we are governed by a session--a board of ordained elders who exercise a ministry of governance.  Our session's ministry is divided into Ministry Teams, Administrative Teams, and Provisional Teams designed to fulfill our church's divine calling.  Here is our session structure:

Ministry Teams:

  • Worship
  • Discipleship
  • Fellowship
  • Witness
  • Stewardship

Administrative Teams:

  • Administration
  • Property

Provisional Teams:

  • Nominating
  • Financial Review

Other Entities:

  • Board of Deacons
  • Presbyterian Women
